Dr. Lakshmi Rekha Arun is a Bharatanatyam performer, researcher, author, nattuvanar, and teacher, trained under the legendary Guru Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy in the Vasundhara Baani, which blends Yoga with the Pandanallur style. Her choreographies are known for their visual elegance, intellectual depth, and devotional essence, earning both critical acclaim and popular appeal.

With over 20 years of teaching experience, she leads the Laasya Academy of Dance, Bengaluru, curating festivals like Laasya Sambhrama, Laasya Saadhaki, and the newly launched Laasya Purusha for male dancers. Her rural initiative, “Halliyedege Laasya,” provides Bharatanatyam, Carnatic music, Yoga, and academic support to village children.

A gold medalist in Dentistry, trained Carnatic vocalist, Yoga exponent, and Doordarshan-graded artist, Dr. Lakshmi also holds a Master’s degree in Bharatanatyam with distinction. Her award-winning research on Vijayanagara sculptures and sarees and her YouTube series Six Yard Wonders as Seen from a Sculptor’s Eye have drawn wide scholarly and public appreciation.
She has performed extensively in India and abroad, most recently representing India at the Bali International Arts Festival 2025.

As the name implies, Laasya is an institution that brings forth the roots of our Indian culture. I know Dr. Lakshmi Rekha as a fantastic daughter, wonderful daughter-in-law, great mother and a brilliant teacher who has fulfilled her parents' dreams of becoming a great Doctor. She then went on to achieve her ambitions, and Dance became an integral part of her life. Whatever she executes, she does it from the heart, as seen by her accomplishments. The most striking thing is, Lakshmi Rekha's presence on stage is seen in each of her students and I must say, it's a visual treat. A true Indian who volunteers for a variety of social issues and leads by example is a true teacher who not only develops her students as dancers but also a better Individual.
